Increase Website Traffic for free: What source should website traffic come from, especially if it’s very recent?
How to increase the traffic of a website?
This is one of the questions that business leaders should ask themselves before doing anything, but that many of them forget!
Yet they invest tens of thousands of dollars for this. By not asking the real question, they risk not receiving any return on their investment.
Take our example. When it comes to building traffic, 90% of the time, we use organic, so-called natural (SEO) search methods.
We can build on the number of times we have launched paid advertising campaigns for clients who want to increase their website traffic. This can be beneficial in some cases, but …
At Xyzor, we prefer to drive traffic to an ad-free website for three reasons.
1. The results are significantly better over the long term.
2. It generates better quality leads.
3. It is more economical
The good news? In this way, increasing your website traffic is completely free
As I said earlier, you are free to use the strategies we have used, especially since they have proven to be effective.
That is why in this article we are going to tell you how to increase traffic to your website without ads. Once you’re done reading, don’t delay in following the steps exactly. You will immediately notice the results.
Improve Website Traffic Without Buying Ads?
Natural referencing or SEO
Engaging in a natural search strategy is probably the first thing you can do to get more free traffic to your website. Unlike paid online advertising methods (e.g., Google AdWords, Facebook, LinkedIn), which stop showing as soon as you stop paying, this one continues to send leads long after you click “Post.”
Having said that, many companies shy away from SEO because it sounds intimidating. The good news? This is not the case. Once an agency or developer has designed your site to be user-friendly, you can easily learn how to choose the right keywords and optimize your pages. Discover our guide to indexing your content quickly on Google.
1. Optimize pages for search
Every web page or blog post should ideally focus on two long-tail keywords. What do we mean by “long tail”? It’s a group of keywords that relate to the same idea. Let’s take a few examples on the house theme: building, building, villa, property, residence, apartment, dining room, room…
So your keywords should be included in the following locations:
- The title of the page
- In the content
- In the picture ALT
- The Meta description
- Heading tags.
2. Increase links
Acquiring a large number of internal links and backlinks is part of improving your SEO and, therefore, your Google search ranking. Internal links are links that you create yourself, directing readers to other content on your own site.
Fortunately, it is quite easy to increase the number of internal links on your site. However, it is all the easier when you are working with topic groups, which allows you to quickly and naturally create links between them.
Not only will this help your SEO, but at the same time, you will give more user experience (UX).
On the other hand, getting backlinks from an authority website turns out to be more complicated. Your articles must deserve it, so they must be relevant and, above all, valuable in the eyes of others.
They will then be encouraged to share them and possibly create links to them. Also, do some personal awareness. Maybe a blogger will be happy to mention your site in one of these blog posts. In short, a lot of work awaits you.
3. Evaluate site performance
Did you know that Google rewards fast loading websites?
As the content of websites grows, it is not uncommon for site performance to slow. Consequently, there will be enough impact on your SEO.
This is why it is preferable to reduce the size of the images to be inserted in the sites. Also, remove unnecessary plugins and features. Finally, use a quality content delivery network (CDN). All of this can only optimize its performance.
4. Choose better keywords
As mentioned earlier, special attention should be paid to the choice of keywords. Target something that is too competitive, and you will immediately be discouraged by your lack of results. Target something too easy, and you won’t get enough traffic to make it worth it.
What to do? So go for a mix of medium difficulty and long-tail keywords, with a mix between “quick wins” and “ambitious terms” thrown in to measure your results. There is a lot to say about this; a future article will be dedicated to it.
5. Remove bad Backlinks
Do you remember those quality backlinks we talked about earlier? Well, what we haven’t mentioned is that backlinks from wobbly sources are harmful to SEO.
Use tools like Ahrefs, Majestic, or Open Site Explorer to find and eliminate these bad backlinks.
6. Implement schema micro-data
The diagram is a type of microdata that makes it easier for search engines to interpret information on web pages.
Unfortunately, this one requires some HTML knowledge.
This is because schema elements and attributes are added directly to the HTML code of a web page; once this step is completed, the search engine indexing robots have a higher level of information.
Another advantage of using the scheme, perhaps? Effectively, this can result in better snippets from rich sites that appear above the number one ranking on Google.
Use social networks to Increase your Website Traffic
Acquiring traffic through social media without paid ads is only effective if you have a large enough audience. For businesses with a low follower mass, spending a lot of time on social is unlikely to pay you big dividends in the short term.
Having said that, this is one of those sources of traffic that shouldn’t be ignored. Your marketing efforts go hand in hand with social media and over time your audience will grow; social channels will then become a more important source of traffic.
7. Add the link to your website on your social profiles
Include a clickable link to your website on all of your social media profiles so that your potential customers can easily find you. We have to make their lives easier, don’t we? Find out how brands are using Instagram.
8. Promote your content on social media
Whenever you post a blog post, be sure to share it on your social media. Don’t just post a boring link; pull out a compelling snippet to attract clicks. Let the platform character limit dictate the length of your snippet.
In addition, always include a high-quality image! Content shared with images and/or videos enjoys significantly higher clicks than those without.
9. Organize contests on social networks
Social media contests are great ways to build interest in your brand. Unfortunately, this is one of those ideas that most needs a large audience or paid advertising. However, if you already have a good audience, this is an easy way to generate traffic.
All you need to do is pick an item that you think will interest your target audience and run the contest. Make sure your readers have to visit your website to sign up. You can also share your contest on some sites that feel its contests, there are hundreds of them.
10. Be present on the networks with your personal account
By becoming a regular attendee where your customers are, you increase your chances of being visible. So take part in the LinkedIn and Facebook conversations.
Be careful, though! Don’t become a salesperson or a spammer. Your prospects are already receiving a lot of prospecting messages that they don’t respond to, so don’t end up in the mix. You really need to participate with the sole purpose of adding value to the conversation.
How to make PARTNERSHIPS to Boost your Traffic
Of all the categories on our list, this one offers the biggest “quick win” in terms of free traffic: Partnership.
By joining forces with other businesses, publications, and blogs that serve an overlapping marketplace, your content can go from barely noticed to frequent discussion overnight.
The small problem, however, lies in identifying the right opportunities and developing relationships. It does take effort! But remember, if you want to grow your brand/business for free and fast, it is worth the effort!
11. Organize an advertising exchange
Now that you’ve finished identifying, creating a product or service that targets a certain audience, and doing an ad exchange, it’s time to do a photo shoot with your partner.
12. Work with Influencers
Influencers, as their name suggests, are people with a lot of followers. While celebrities are always influencers, influencers are not always famous.
This is why your target influencers might be largely unknown to the rest of the world; they are only known in a specific area.
These tips will help you: first, identify influencers with whom you can build mutually beneficial relationships.
Then, help them in any way you can, whether by reposting their content or inviting them to your events, but also by offering them a product they seem useful.
The concept is simple: the influencer in question would like to return the favor at one point or another. He may have to share one or more of your content, on-demand or not.
If you’re making a special product or service, you might also consider giving it to an influencer in exchange for a posted review.
13. Offer posting opportunities on your blog
Another way to get in touch with influencers is to approach them with posting opportunities on your blog. If it’s really a win-win, they will get a new audience from your audience, and you will get a new audience from the traffic these articles will generate.
In short, don’t be afraid to approach someone using this method. Even if your site is small, the person will still benefit from it because their blog will be featured as a credible source on yours.
14. Send an email to other blogs in your domain
Conversely, you can appear as a guest contributor on other blogs. To do this, list the popular blogs in your area of intervention.
Once you’ve identified them:
- Check their websites to follow editorial guidelines
- Study their archives to learn what type of content they prefer
- Note the topics that have already been covered
- Create a brief email pitch (include some ideas for topics and why they should believe you).
Do a great job, and you might be able to become a regular contributor. Oh, and it’s worth mentioning, in order to earn including a link to your website (usually seen in the author’s bio)!
15. Write a product review
This one might sound strange, but rest assured: it works! Depending on your industry, there are several products or services that you can count on to get the job done.
At Xyzor for example, we use a number of software to organize and execute marketing campaigns. If we want quick publicity, we just contact all of these software companies and then give a positive testimonial.
In addition, a case study that they could use for their own marketing purposes would be welcome. We would then be displayed in large on the site of several software publishers.
Increase your Traffic and sales by Building a Community
Become a familiar face. How should you go about it? In fact, it’s about in-person networking: while community involvement doesn’t immediately increase traffic, it can be beneficial in the long run.
Are there any sites you visit regularly that you could connect with?
What about the sites where your ideal customers meet to connect?
Quality, relevance, and overall helpfulness are the key elements; remember it!
Translation: Nothing ruins a discussion in an interesting community than a lame link displaying a sales page. So here are some great ideas for community involvement:
16. Participate in forums relevant to your industry
Most industries have forums where people go to discuss issues, opportunities, and innovative ideas. Just type in on Google: “[industry] forum”, and you will probably find several.
However, there is one problem: You may be wasting your time talking to your peers rather than your clients.
The ideal scenario is to join a group that represents the industries you serve. This way you can become the expert answering all of their questions.
17. Answer questions on Quora.
Do you have an international product or service? Have you checked out Quora?

At Xyzor, we use Slack to communicate with team members throughout the day. Slack was designed to function as a streamlined corporate email software, replacing email internally.
However, since its release, many professionals have grown accustomed to using the platform beyond its original purpose. It has become a modern chat room for industry professionals.
19. Build your own community
Depending on the nature of your business, you can create your own community. For example, if you manage a coworking space, you can develop a community that allows other entrepreneurs to connect. You can use Slack, LinkedIn, Facebook, or even create something completely unique to your own site.
Ryan Hoover from Product Hunt wrote a helpful article on how he used social media to publicly build massive community very quickly (and for free).

Attending relevant conferences and conventions is another way to generate fresh traffic. Giving presentations, attending a business meeting, hosting booths, and just handing out business cards can help.

21. Automate email marketing campaigns
Once you’ve got the essentials of content marketing in place, it’s time to think about email marketing. A 2014 study by GigaOM Media found that marketers rely more on email marketing than any other practice.
While social media is great at attracting new prospects, it’s less effective at building long-term relationships.
So what’s the best way to develop long-term relationships (and redirect traffic to your site)? Just create automated email campaigns that guide prospects through the buyer’s journey.
22. Write better headlines
How many headlines do you see each day while searching on Google?
What is it that actually makes you click on some links and not others? That’s the title, isn’t it?
It might surprise you to learn that writing compelling headlines is actually quite stereotypical. For example, research shows that informative headlines like lists (which start with a number), how-to headlines, and guides tend to get more readers and shares.
23. Create resources
What is a resource, more precisely? It’s a piece of content that is so valuable that people can’t help but share it and tell others about it.
Getting something shared on social media by news sources, educational outlets, and/or blogs in your industry will definitely help you increase website traffic for free.
The key is to create this resource for the right person. You can assume that this is your buyer persona, but that is not always the case.
